 Mayberry Campground in Mount Airy

Thursday September 8th 2022 thru Sunday, September 11th 2022

We all gathered at the Mayberry Campground, up on the hill, backed in, near the large shelter and kitchen building. Our Hosts, Clennon Vasser and Kathy Powers welcomed us with appetizers and good conversation. We invited over another Tiffin owner couple from Texas who were camped in our area. They also had some great stories to share.

Friday morning Clennon and Kathy provided doughnuts and coffee in the morning. Then most of us did day tours of the area. Some stayed in the campground and played some games that Kathy and Clennon brought. Friday night we went to the Depot restaurant in nearby Dobson. Always a great meal there.

Saturday we were again free to do tours or visit with friends. We had rain on and off for part of the day. We decided to go out to eat again instead of chancing it raining again. We found a restaurant in Mount Airy, 13 Bones. While waiting for our meal we had a quick meeting. The food was good and we managed not to get wet.

Sunday was departure day for most of us. Mount Airy is a great campground and we all had a good time, despite Saturdays rain.

 Tanglewood Rally a huge success!

Thursday, June 9th 2022 thru Sunday, June 12th 2022

First let me thank Dona and Jack Branson for hosting this rally. And also, Kirk Wells from Campers Inn in Clemmons, for providing us a great cookout dinner on Friday night at the campground shelter.

Thursday was arrival day and Dona and Jack provided yummy snacks at the shelter. We sat around and caught up with old friends and met some new friends. Friday most of us went on a tour that Dona and Jack arranged - Mrs Hanes Moravian Cookies. The tour lasted about two hours and was very informative. The cookies are all hand made and we got free samples of every variety and flavor. Lots of cookies were also bought at the end of the tour.

Friday afternoon we were on our own for touring, shopping, or just visiting with friends. Friday night we were once again treated to a delish meal prepared by Campers Inn Super Salesperson, Kirk Wells. He brought his cooker and all the food and we feasted.

Saturday there was a corn hole tournament with the winners awarded prizes. It took a long time as none of us were very good at it.  The rest of the day was spent however we wanted, with most of us visiting each others campsites chatting. Saturday night we all went to the local mexican restaurant for a good meal. Then we went back to the campground shelter for our meeting.

Sunday morning most of us departed towards home - another great rally was over.

April 2022 Rally at a new campground just south of Winston-Salem - Salem Breeze.

Our latest rally was held last weekend, April 28th - May 1st. We went to Salem Breeze Campground for the first time as a club. This is a fairly new campground, developed and owned by Robert Sells, who also owns the Cool Breeze campground in Galax, VA.

The route in was easy. At this time there is no prepayment or deposit, just make a reservation and show up. The campground is small, about twenty sites, and it gets busy on the weekends.  Currently there are no bathroom facilities so your RV must be self contained. The sites are mostly pull throughs, with a few back ins. Each site is level and long enough and wide enough for easy access with a tow vehicle. Full hookups with 15/30/50 amp electric. Water pressure is high so bring your regulator. No cable at this time, but I was able to scan in about 35 local channels for the TV. There are several nice areas to walk your pets. Robert provided us the use of his large storage/office building, where he setup tables and chairs for us - worked out great for our Saturday night potluck dinner and meeting. There is no bathroom in this building but your coach is close by. Robert recommended a nearby restaurant for our Friday night group dinner - Arcadia. The service were very good and the pricing was great for the quality and quantity of the food. Go early as they get very busy.

We had a good mix of club newbies and veterans. Eight couples came in their coaches and two more joined us for dinner. Several couples had family commitments, work, or traveled during the day, but we all got together for nightly meals. On Friday most everybody went their own way during the day. Friday, late afternoon, the Hoopers treated us all to smoked chicken wing appetizers at their site - very tasty. On Saturday several people got together for cards and indoor and outdoor games. Robert, the owner, gave me permission to wash my coach that day - it really needed it. Check out on Sunday was not until 2:00pm but we were all on our way home by noon.

Hope to see most of you in June, the 9th - 12th, at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons, NC. We have the most level fifteen sites reserved for us. Call them before May 9th at (336) 703-6494 for your reservation. Check your email for more on this.

Sorry I forgot pictures again - somebody remind me next time please.

 Almost back to normal

Our Halloween weekend rally in Clemmons, NC at the Tanglewood Park campground started out a little damp and cool, with rain off and on for Thursday and Friday. Most of the thirty plus people arrived on Thursday just before the rain started. We walked around socializing - getting to know new friends and catching up with old ones.

Friday was not quite as rainy so some of us got out and toured around Clemmons and west Winston-Salem. Nearby, Deweys Bakery, saw a few visits from our members that day. The rain subsided in the late afternoon and Kirk Wells, from Campers Inn, came over around 4:30 and started up his massive grill. He prepared a feast of T-bone steaks, chicken breasts, sausages, beans, salad, and all the trimmings. Members brought lots of great desserts. Almost forty of us (we invited some guests from the campground) gathered at the shelter around 5:30. Dinner got started around 6:15 and lasted about an hour.

Our club meeting started a little after seven. See the copy of the minutes you were sent, by email, for the highlights. The main topics included a review of next years rally schedule - see the upcoming events page of this website for the details. We decided not to have a holiday party this year so our next club function will be our fall rally at the end of April 2022. We agreed to make a couple donations from the club, and most important of all we elected new club officers. Thanks to our out going officers for their work over the last four years - thanks to Covid they served four years instead of the normal two.

Everyone was on their own for Saturday. Jack and Donna Branson hosted several of us in their new Phateon. That visit confirmed that Tiffin is still a master at building well designed and equipped coaches. The rest of the day was spent wandering around the area and the campground. Most everyone went out to eat to one of the many nearby restaurants - but a group of several couples executed a successful campground potluck dinner.  Sunday was departure day for most of us - hope to see everyone at the new Salem Breeze campground, just south of Winston-Salem in April. Until then, here is hoping that we all have a safe and happy holiday season.

The early cook - T-bones come later.
Thanks again to Kirk Wells and Campers Inn

 2020 and 2021

The Piedmont Allegro Club has been dormant since the beginning of the Covid 19 crisis. We have suffered deaths and illness but we are determined to come back stronger than ever.

Please review the Upcoming Events page of this website to see what we have planned for the Fall of 2021, and all of 2022.

Until we can "Rough it Smoothly" together again - please be safe and happy.  Hope to see all of you soon!

2019 is almost in the rear view mirror

Did you ever wonder why Tiffin installs a rear view mirror in their coaches? It's not like you can see all the way through the coach and out the rear window - there is none. But it does tell you the outside temperature and your direction of travel - so it is good for something.

Here is how the rest of 2019 went for the club:

In May we went to Tanglewood. This is one of our favorite campgrounds. Good combination of trees and open space, usually quiet, and we usually get all the level sites that they have.

In September we went to a new campground for the club, although many of our members have gone here before. Tom Johnson campground - not the rally area.  We had a good turnout and the weather was good on most days, when it was not raining. No place to gather under cover so we went out to nearby restaurants two nights instead of our usual one night. Lots of nearby touring, with wineries, cheese factories, and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

In October we went to another club favorite, Mayberry campground in Mount Airy, NC.  Another good turnout rally.  We again went out to eat, as a group, on two nights - due to threats of rain and cold winds.  There was a car rally downtown which some of our members enjoyed. It is always fun to walk the downtown areas of Mount Airy, shopping and people watching. Plenty of local lunch spots to try.

On Saturday, December 7th, we have our final event for 2019. Our holiday lunch (see the upcoming events page for more info).  I know our members enjoy this last get together of the year. We are again supporting the US Marine Toys for Tots drive, with our new unwrapped children's toys and gifts.

Check out the upcoming events page of this blog to check and see what we have planned for 2020 - a new campground is our first stop and we have the whole campground reserved just for us.

Hope to see you all soon - Have a great end of the year holiday season.

Drowning in Denver, NC

I am not sure if it was the weather forecast, or if it was just to early in the year for most of our members, but we only had three member couples camping at our Denver, NC April rally. The Holmes came in early, on Wednesday, fresh from their winter stay in Florida, with stop overs in Savanna and Charleston. They enjoyed a beautiful top down drive all day on Thursday, scouting out Lake Norman, and the surrounding communities. Coming back to the campground late in the afternoon, to find the Ross's and the Weller's had arrived during the day.

Thursday night we decided to throw together a mini potluck meal, dining alfresco. The Weller's had brought over a few pounds of fresh shrimp from the coast and we put that together with a big salad, a long crusty loaf of hot french bread, and a cold and creamy key lime pie - great meal and conversation, sitting under the awning at the picnic table, waiting for the rain to start.

Friday, and the rest of the weekend, we remained under an overcast sky with rain showers mainly late in the afternoon and over night. We all did day tours, or sat around the campground ducking the showers. We got together each night and went out to dinner. Found a great steakhouse nearby on Friday night and one of the last remaining Fish Camp restaurants on Saturday night. Both were very good.

Sunday morning the Ross's and Weller's pulled out early enroute to Charlotesville, VA for a few days before heading back home. The Holmes left late (no surprise) and went home for the first time in almost four months.
