Thanks to Robert Sells at Salem Breeze Campground and Kirk Wells of Campers Inn of Mocksville

We all gathered in mid October 2023 for another great rally in Winston- Salem, NC at the Salem Breeze Campground. The owner, Robert Sells, who also owns the Cool Breeze Campground in Galax, VA, catered to our every need. His campgrounds are very well constructed and maintained, with long and level full hookup pull through sites and nice amenities, complete with large indoor rally areas.

The weather was good, except for a little rain on Friday night. This was expected and caused us to adjust our rally schedule around slightly.  Instead of eating at the campground on Friday night we went out to dinner at a very nice nearby restaurant that Robert recommended, the Arcadia Family Restaurant. Our club has eaten there before. Always good food, lots of choices, and very good service and prices.  Saturday night, Kirk Wells from the nearby Tiffin dealership, Campers Inn of Mocksville, cooked another great steak and chicken BBQ. He trailers in his mobile kitchen and brings all the food, plates, napkins, cups and cutlery, drinks, and cooks it all fresh. He is such a warm and friendly person, and he really enjoys feeding rally groups who come into the areas near the dealership.  All sponsored by Campers Inn of Mocksville.

During the days everyone was free to explore the nearby areas, with some going to High Point, Lexington, downtown Winston-Salem - and some of us just staying at the campground and chatting with Robert. Another very good rally. We all agreed, we are coming back here next year!

Roanoke Rapids - 8 JUNE - 11JUNE 2023

We gathered in Roanoke Rapids, NC at the RV Resort at Carolina Crossroads, for our second rally of 2023. Kathy and I got in a day early to begin our duties as rally hosts. For this rally we opted to bring our, new to us, a 28 foot class B+ coach, that we named Junior. After setting up in the campground we checked out the facilities. Nice pool and jacuzzi, rally room, small camp store, large open air covered game area. The campground was clean and well maintained.  The sites were long enough for our coach and tow vehicle, and plenty wide enough for the slides and awning. We were very lucky to be assigned a full hookup pull thru site next to a large covered gazebo. Since we knew another club member couple would be coming in to the site on the other side of the gazebo we staked it out and made it our extended home for the weekend. We were given the key to the rally room for our exclusive use all weekend, it was large and had a full kitchen, and since there were only going to be ten to twelve of us we opted not to use it - the gazebo would work just fine for our needs.

On Thursday we gathered information about things to do and see from some very friendly staff at the chamber of commerce - the tourist information office was closed for remodeling. Most of the group arrived while Kathy and I were still checking out the nearby areas. We got back and setup for the welcome meet and greet in our gazebo. Some of us brought our chairs and with the gazebos picnic table and a folding table we had everything we needed. It was nice to see familiar faces and meet new ones. We talked and swapped stories for a few hours and then split up for the night.

On Friday some of us did day trips while the rest of us met up in the campground to visit. Friday night we opted for dinner out at a local Mexican food restaurant that the campground owner and the chamber recommended. The food and the service was good, with a large menu to select from.

On Saturday we again did day trips around the area, while some of us stayed at the campground. Kathy and I had an electrical issue with our coach so we dealt with that issue for part of the day. We could not get power into the coach using our 50amp cord and connection so we ended up stringing a series of extension cords to power up what we needed for the rest of the weekend. We all met up at another recommended local restaurant, this time a steakhouse. The food and service were great. After dinner we all met up back at the campground, at the gazebo, for our meeting and more visiting.

On Sunday morning at 6 am Kathy and I woke up to a coach filled with smoke. Turns out that a foil covered heater duct was not properly anchored down and had shifted - touching a 12v bridge bar in the back of the converters distribution panel causing it to short. Our plans to stay an extra night suddenly ended. We did a temporary fix of that issue and immediately packed up to leave. Two electrical issues in one weekend was enough for us. There were a few others up that early so we said our goodbyes. Most everyone was scheduled to leave later in the morning. On the way home I called the campground office, once it opened. I advised them of our problems, assuring them that the issues were with our coach - not their power pedestal. They cheerfully refunded us for the unused portion of our stay.

PS: Junior is fixed. The GFCI outlet did not seem to be faulty but it was indeed creating most of our problems. A simple replacement with a better quality unit fixed the AC problems. Rerouting and anchoring the heater duct fixed the DC problem.

Here are a few pictures of our Friday night out at the local Mexican restaurant in Roanoke Rapids:

Hope to see you all at our fall rallies:
9/14 - 17 at Tom Johnson Campground
10/19 - 22 at the Salem Breeze Campground

Tanglewood Rally - April 27th - April 30th, 2023

Six of our member couples braved a rainy weekend and still managed to have a great time.

Most of us arrived Thursday afternoon before the rain started up later that evening. We met at Kathy and Clennons coach for a meet and greet on Thursday at around 5:00 pm. Lots of snacks, drinks, and good conversation.

Friday most of us enjoyed a few hours of sunny skies by touring the park and the surrounding areas.  We met up at a local restaurant, getting in just before the wind and the rain settled in. Luckily it was short lived and we got home without getting soaked.  Some of the group set up at the shelter until late that evening, swapping stories, and getting to know some of our new members. The rain lasted all night - great for sleeping.

Saturday was overcast in the morning, but by noon the sun was out and we were moving around the campground visiting and enjoying the day. The shelter was reserved by another group but the campground work camper hosts set us up at their site with plenty of tables and chairs for our pot luck dinner and meeting. We enjoyed a good meal and enjoyed the evening. The meeting was short, but productive. Some of us stayed and lingered by the camp hosts firepit afterwards.

Sunday the rain held off so most of us were able to break camp and get on the road before the showers started up again.

Hope to see all of you at our next campout - June 8th - June 11th, 2023 at the RV Resort at Carolina Crossroads, Roanoke Rapids, NC. Call them at (252) 538-9776 to make your reservation.

If you are a Tiffin product owner and think you might want to camp with us you are more than welcome to come to any of our events.

 Mayberry Campground in Mount Airy

Thursday September 8th 2022 thru Sunday, September 11th 2022

We all gathered at the Mayberry Campground, up on the hill, backed in, near the large shelter and kitchen building. Our Hosts, Clennon Vasser and Kathy Powers welcomed us with appetizers and good conversation. We invited over another Tiffin owner couple from Texas who were camped in our area. They also had some great stories to share.

Friday morning Clennon and Kathy provided doughnuts and coffee in the morning. Then most of us did day tours of the area. Some stayed in the campground and played some games that Kathy and Clennon brought. Friday night we went to the Depot restaurant in nearby Dobson. Always a great meal there.

Saturday we were again free to do tours or visit with friends. We had rain on and off for part of the day. We decided to go out to eat again instead of chancing it raining again. We found a restaurant in Mount Airy, 13 Bones. While waiting for our meal we had a quick meeting. The food was good and we managed not to get wet.

Sunday was departure day for most of us. Mount Airy is a great campground and we all had a good time, despite Saturdays rain.

 Tanglewood Rally a huge success!

Thursday, June 9th 2022 thru Sunday, June 12th 2022

First let me thank Dona and Jack Branson for hosting this rally. And also, Kirk Wells from Campers Inn in Clemmons, for providing us a great cookout dinner on Friday night at the campground shelter.

Thursday was arrival day and Dona and Jack provided yummy snacks at the shelter. We sat around and caught up with old friends and met some new friends. Friday most of us went on a tour that Dona and Jack arranged - Mrs Hanes Moravian Cookies. The tour lasted about two hours and was very informative. The cookies are all hand made and we got free samples of every variety and flavor. Lots of cookies were also bought at the end of the tour.

Friday afternoon we were on our own for touring, shopping, or just visiting with friends. Friday night we were once again treated to a delish meal prepared by Campers Inn Super Salesperson, Kirk Wells. He brought his cooker and all the food and we feasted.

Saturday there was a corn hole tournament with the winners awarded prizes. It took a long time as none of us were very good at it.  The rest of the day was spent however we wanted, with most of us visiting each others campsites chatting. Saturday night we all went to the local mexican restaurant for a good meal. Then we went back to the campground shelter for our meeting.

Sunday morning most of us departed towards home - another great rally was over.

April 2022 Rally at a new campground just south of Winston-Salem - Salem Breeze.

Our latest rally was held last weekend, April 28th - May 1st. We went to Salem Breeze Campground for the first time as a club. This is a fairly new campground, developed and owned by Robert Sells, who also owns the Cool Breeze campground in Galax, VA.

The route in was easy. At this time there is no prepayment or deposit, just make a reservation and show up. The campground is small, about twenty sites, and it gets busy on the weekends.  Currently there are no bathroom facilities so your RV must be self contained. The sites are mostly pull throughs, with a few back ins. Each site is level and long enough and wide enough for easy access with a tow vehicle. Full hookups with 15/30/50 amp electric. Water pressure is high so bring your regulator. No cable at this time, but I was able to scan in about 35 local channels for the TV. There are several nice areas to walk your pets. Robert provided us the use of his large storage/office building, where he setup tables and chairs for us - worked out great for our Saturday night potluck dinner and meeting. There is no bathroom in this building but your coach is close by. Robert recommended a nearby restaurant for our Friday night group dinner - Arcadia. The service were very good and the pricing was great for the quality and quantity of the food. Go early as they get very busy.

We had a good mix of club newbies and veterans. Eight couples came in their coaches and two more joined us for dinner. Several couples had family commitments, work, or traveled during the day, but we all got together for nightly meals. On Friday most everybody went their own way during the day. Friday, late afternoon, the Hoopers treated us all to smoked chicken wing appetizers at their site - very tasty. On Saturday several people got together for cards and indoor and outdoor games. Robert, the owner, gave me permission to wash my coach that day - it really needed it. Check out on Sunday was not until 2:00pm but we were all on our way home by noon.

Hope to see most of you in June, the 9th - 12th, at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons, NC. We have the most level fifteen sites reserved for us. Call them before May 9th at (336) 703-6494 for your reservation. Check your email for more on this.

Sorry I forgot pictures again - somebody remind me next time please.

 Almost back to normal

Our Halloween weekend rally in Clemmons, NC at the Tanglewood Park campground started out a little damp and cool, with rain off and on for Thursday and Friday. Most of the thirty plus people arrived on Thursday just before the rain started. We walked around socializing - getting to know new friends and catching up with old ones.

Friday was not quite as rainy so some of us got out and toured around Clemmons and west Winston-Salem. Nearby, Deweys Bakery, saw a few visits from our members that day. The rain subsided in the late afternoon and Kirk Wells, from Campers Inn, came over around 4:30 and started up his massive grill. He prepared a feast of T-bone steaks, chicken breasts, sausages, beans, salad, and all the trimmings. Members brought lots of great desserts. Almost forty of us (we invited some guests from the campground) gathered at the shelter around 5:30. Dinner got started around 6:15 and lasted about an hour.

Our club meeting started a little after seven. See the copy of the minutes you were sent, by email, for the highlights. The main topics included a review of next years rally schedule - see the upcoming events page of this website for the details. We decided not to have a holiday party this year so our next club function will be our fall rally at the end of April 2022. We agreed to make a couple donations from the club, and most important of all we elected new club officers. Thanks to our out going officers for their work over the last four years - thanks to Covid they served four years instead of the normal two.

Everyone was on their own for Saturday. Jack and Donna Branson hosted several of us in their new Phateon. That visit confirmed that Tiffin is still a master at building well designed and equipped coaches. The rest of the day was spent wandering around the area and the campground. Most everyone went out to eat to one of the many nearby restaurants - but a group of several couples executed a successful campground potluck dinner.  Sunday was departure day for most of us - hope to see everyone at the new Salem Breeze campground, just south of Winston-Salem in April. Until then, here is hoping that we all have a safe and happy holiday season.

The early cook - T-bones come later.
Thanks again to Kirk Wells and Campers Inn
